ELLIPTICAL ARCH SPECIFICATIONS

Elliptical arches create a wide, graceful curve that works especially well when an opening needs a lower rise than a traditional half-circle arch. Unlike a constant-radius arch, the radius of an elliptical arch continually changes. The curve is gentler across the center and becomes progressively tighter near each side, producing a smooth and visually balanced transition into the opening.

This versatile profile works well in hallways, entryways, room transitions, and other wide interior openings. It also coordinates beautifully with half-circle arches under 72", allowing both profiles to be used throughout the same project while maintaining a consistent architectural style.

Each arch is precision manufactured to the dimensions provided, helping eliminate complicated jobsite layout, cutting, and inconsistent hand-framing. The prefabricated components make it easier to create a smooth, accurate curve while reducing the time and skill required to frame the opening by hand. Once installed, the arch creates a strong, uniform framing surface ready to receive drywall and finish materials. This helps produce a cleaner, more consistent finished opening from one project to the next.

Material	Plyworx, our plywood-built product, OR from high-grade MDF. The material is selected by our production department based on current production requirements. If a specific material is required, the customer must call our office before ordering, and the request must be included on the order.
Thickness (in.)	1" to 1½", depending on the width and selected material.
Depth (in.)	Full-depth arches from 1" to 5½" are available in MDF only. Deeper openings receive a split kit with one arch installed on each side. When manufactured as Plyworx, each arch extends approximately 1½" into the opening (actual depth: 1.418"). Elliptical arches are limited to openings 18" deep. Openings deeper than 18" are considered barrel vaults.

HOW TO MEASURE AN ELLIPTICAL DOORWAY ARCH KIT

Measure the depth of your opening to the nearest 1/8”.
Measure the width of your opening to the nearest 1/8”.
Enter the location (place) where the elliptical arch will be installed in your project (for example: Entry / Dining Rm, Living / Bdrm Hall, Arch #1).

FINDING YOUR ELLIPTICAL ARCH RISE

For the most part, elliptical arches need to keep a very specific width to rise ratio to keep their look intact. The greater the width, the greater the rise and vice versa. To better understand this, type a width into the above pricing calculator and watch the total rise change according to the width. If you’d like to customize your rise, you’ll need to call us.

HOW TO INSTALL AN ELLIPTICAL DOORWAY ARCH KIT

Every elliptical arch kit comes with tailored installation instructions to your specifications. It really is as simple as measuring and marking the center of your header, marking down from the header your total height, and then aligning and fastening each elliptical arch half to the stud and header.

How long does it take to get my elliptical archways?

Elliptical arch kits normally take 5 - 9 business days to manufacture (in most cases sooner). Then add a few days for shipping. Plan for 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 weeks from date of order.

How do you ship my elliptical arches?

Depending upon the size of your order, most elliptical arch kits ship in boxes via UPS Ground. If you order several arch kits or if you also order a ceiling or wall design kit, it could ship on a pallet via UPS Freight. If you’d like to know how it will ship before placing your order, simply call us and we’ll let you know.

How do you drywall a elliptical arch?

Drywalling an elliptical arch is comprised of measuring the curvature of the arch, cutting the drywall to the curvature and depth, forming and fastening in place. You can also watch our "How to Drywall an Archway" YouTube video.

QUICK TIPS

Wetting the back of the drywall (as shown in the video) will make the drywall easier to bend.
For tighter rardius elliptical arches, consider using a double layer of either ¼” or ¼” flex drywall.
