Measuring your balcony rim consists of providing measurements for the depth, width, and rise. You’ll also need to specify the cut. For clarification regarding the above measurements, please use the above pricing calculator and click on the “?” tool tip next to each measurement for more information.
Choosing the proper cut begins with how you plan to fasten the balcony rim to your joists. The 3 different cut options we provide include: level, square, and plumb. The level cut is where the balcony rim is cut parallel to the joists. The square cut, normally used for half-circle or S-shaped floor joist rims, will be cut squared to the rim’s radius. The plumb cut, normally used when attached directly to a wall, will be cut perpendicular to the joists. If you require a combination of cuts, such as one end plumbed and the other leveled, please call our office to discuss.
Installing balcony rims is simply a matter of putting them in place and fastening them to your joists. Yep, it’s really that easy! But for the sake of being thorough, we’ll supply tailored installation instructions to soothe any disbelief.
Drywalling a balcony rim is comprised of measuring the curvature, cutting the drywall to the curvature, forming and fastening in place. We had a project with a large fireplace that sat against a tall wall. Something was missing from the design so I had the guys at Archways & Ceilings build me a large curved fireplace canopy to create a cool custom feature for this area. The kit was made to my spec’s and was easy to assemble. The combination of the straight lines of the fireplace and the bell curve shaped lines of the canopy truly makes this space one of a kind.
As a framing contractor, anything with a radius, prior to Archways & Ceilings, meant I or one of my skilled hands would have to build it. What was time consuming and costly is now easy and affordable. Their balcony rims transformed what would’ve been a laborsome task into a quick and easy job.
