A groin vault is formed by two barrel vaults intersecting at right angles. The result is four curving surfaces that draw the eye up and toward the center. The areas where the barrel vaults come together create ribs that add both strength and visual appeal.Check out Groin Vaults Featured Project

How to Drywall a Groin Vault Ceiling
Drywalling a groin vault ceiling is comprised of measuring the curvature of the strut for each triangle section, cutting the drywall to the curvature and length, forming and fastening in place.
- Wetting the back of the drywall (as shown in the video) will make the drywall easier to bend.
- For tighter radius groin ceilings, consider using a double layer of either ¼” or ¼” flex drywall.

Drywall, plaster, tongue and groove, bead board, brick veneer, trim, mural, faux…the list is seemingly endless. Whether you want your groin ceiling to have a simple or an ornate finish, the choice is yours. All of our groin ceiling kits can be designed to handle any finish you can imagine. Choosing a Groin Vault Rise
Choosing a rise for your groin ceiling is mostly personal taste along with the overall design/theme of the home. As long as you keep in mind that the highest point of a groin vault is at the center and that it is from here that it tears drops down to the corners, then you should be fine. Just take care to make note of any windows or doorways near each corner that could cause conflict. If you have any concerns about placement of your groin vault relative to your windows and doorways, feel free to call us and we’d be happy to walk you through the process.
