Turn Your Ceiling into a Barrel Vaulted Beauty

Barrel vaulted ceilings add to the appeal of any room

Aren’t you just tired of seeing the same old ceiling every day? Maybe it wouldn’t be quite so bad if that ceiling had some artistic architectural elements, but just a plain old flat and boring ceiling? More and more people are with you when you say, “No, thank you” to that old standard. That’s why you’re noticing that barrel vaulted ceilings are becoming a pretty popular upgrade to newly built homes. But fortunately, with our prefabricated ceiling kits, you don’t have to wait to design your dream home. You can actually install one of our curved ceiling kits into your existing home. It’s a more major renovation than slapping a new coat of paint on the walls, but for many people, it’s well worth the effort.

Here are some tips for turning your current ceilings into barrel vaulted beauties:
  1. Decide where you want to put the barrel vaulted ceiling. If you’re only installing a vault in one room, choose a room where it will have a major impact. That means keeping it in plain view for all of your visitors. Friends and family tend to gravitate towards the kitchen, so it’s no surprise that this is a popular place to add a vaulted ceiling. Other popular areas are entryways, dining rooms and media rooms.
  2. Decide whether you’ll DIY or hire a contractor. Our barrel vaulted kits are extremely easy to install, but if you’re not handy with a nail gun, you may want to hire a contractor. Keep in mind that it’s a bit more challenging to retrofit a ceiling than to install one of our kits in new construction. If you decide to DIY, you can easily frame your vault under the ceiling joists and/or trusses, or you can pop it up into your attic to give your room a little more height. It will come with easy-to-follow instructions to walk you through the process.
  3. Measure and order. Whether you’re installing the barrel vaulted kit yourself or hiring someone to do the “heavy lifting” for you, this step is the same. You’ll need to take three simple measurements and place your order with us via web, phone, fax or email. Then, we’ll get to work building your custom arch and have it on a truck en route to your location within five business days.

Installing a new barrel vaulted ceiling into an existing room can have its challenges, but it also has some unique benefits. If you’ve been living in this home for quite some time, a different ceiling will make it look like a brand new space. Because you’re intimately familiar with the space, you’ll also have a better idea of where the vault will have the greatest impact. For example, if you have one room that seems smaller and more cramped than the others, a barrel vault might just give the room the height it needs to feel open and airy. Whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed with a barrel vault.
