Ceiling Designs Inspired by Nature

From time to time, we like to stop and smell the flowers. It's rare that we can spare the time, honestly, but now that the weather is getting nicer, it's time to get out there and enjoy nature. And, you're probably not going to be surprised by this, but just about everything out there reminds us of a ceiling we've designed... or will design soon.

Elongated Dome Ceiling

Do you ever sit in your office wishing you could go outside and play? Heck, most of us would even settle for taking the computer outside and working in the sunshine. But alas, most of us don't have that luxury. Still, that doesn't mean you can't bring more of the outside inside.

We've seen many designs that are inspired by nature, and they're rather amazing. Let's take a look at some of the best.

Sky Domes

Domes are like a little pop of interest in your otherwise flat and boring ceiling. But even in their natural state, they are begging for something a little more interesting. Take a look at these domes that were painted to mimic the sky. One in the starry night and the other in a mostly sunny day. It only feels natural to look up and see the sky, so why not make it happen in your own home?

Above-Ground Caverns

Here in Texas, we have the Caverns of Sonora, Inner Space and Natural Bridge Caverns. In New York, there's Howe Caverns. New Mexico has Carlsbad Caverns. And, well, you get the picture. But if you've ever visited any of these natural wonders, you have a pretty good idea of what it's like to sit beneath a large, cavernous room, and that's exactly the feeling you'll get when with one of our barrel ceilings (the bigger, the better).

But if the shape alone isn't enough to mimic nature, you can always take things a step further with an outdoor-inspired mural like the one seen here.

Clover Vault

If you'd like the Luck of the Irish to look after your home, or if you just like the clover design, you may want to consider this four-leaf-clover inspired decorative ceiling . It is made from combining one groin vault kit with four half dome kits. The image you see here isn't fully drywalled yet, so you're looking at its bare bones. Just imagine how it'll look with contrasting paint, molding and recessed lighting – or even a nature-inspired mural.

Some like to say the sky is the limit. We like to say it's the ceiling. Either way, feel free to let your creative side run wild. Can you think of another way to transform your ceiling into a nature-inspired masterpiece? Or, better, have you already created one? If so, please feel free to share!
